The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States against five Europeans involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.
European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures that were central to campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
